Taisia Novakhova, 32, an upcoming Russian fashion designer, will showcase her wedding collection in Brampton this week.
The event will take place Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Embassy Grand at 8800 The Gore Rd. with a lottery draw at 5 p.m. followed by a fashion show at 7:30 p.m.
Novakhova’s customized haute couture collection—Romance — will feature wedding dresses, flower girl dresses and evening gowns.
The fashion show will also afford a dozen or so models—rejected by other designers because they were too short to walk the runway — an opportunity to live their dream.
“I wanted to give short or petite models a chance because I wanted to cater to women and girls of all sizes,” said Novakhova who hails from South Russia. “Canada has a variety of women not just tall ones. Also, I want to expand my company and make every woman’s dream dress come true.”
The Russian designer, who has been working in the fashion industry for more than 18 years, moved to Canada three years ago said she has been inspired by Canadian culture.
“I moved to Canada to expand my dream of making dresses for all kinds of people and to make them feel more beautiful and confident,” she said. “I put my heart into each dress. Each one is an individual design that is not repeated anywhere.”
To that end, Novakhova uses lace, flowers and Swarovski crystals in her creations. Her dresses cost $300 and up.
